Egypt is one of the biggest underdogs on the board to win the World Cup.  At 20,000/1 they are not causing opponents to lose much sleep.  Uruguay is also an underdog with the World Cup betting odds.  But at +3750 they look like a beast against the Egyptians.  One thing that Egypt does bring to the table is a cure for insomnia.  Lacking the skill to attack they prefer to sit back and play defense.  Uruguay could not be more different in that they prefer to attack.  So, a matchup of these teams is quite the contrast in styles.

Egypt

They qualified for the World Cup by winning African Group E.  Finishing second to Brazil in the South American section got Uruguay in.  Egypt has the oldest player in the World Cup on its roster.  Goalkeeper Essam El Hadary is 45 years of age.  History is not on the side of the Egyptians.  In fact, their past record is absolutely terrible.  Only twice since 1930 have the Pharaohs qualified for the World Cup.  1990 was their last appearance.  It ended with a 20th place Group Stage finish.  Such a record fails to inspire confidence with World Cup betting odds.

Important Egyptian Names

If Egypt has any upsets in store Mohamed Salah will be why.  Salah has 33 goals and 57 caps for his international career.  Professionally he plays for Liverpool in the Premier League.  There he has emerged as a top shelf star.   Essam El Hadary has 156 caps in goal.  He is the team captain.  Coach Hector Cuper is 61 years of age.  Cuper took the job in March 2015.  He is known for leading Valencia to successive Champions League Finals.

Uruguay

Uruguay at least does have a history of sportsbook success.  In 2010 they finished in fourth place.  Four years later than made the round of 16.  Ultimately, they finished 12th in the 2014 World Cup.  After a brief slump in qualifying they closed strong to secure their bid.  Midfield could be a big strength for this team.  Youthful Federico Valverde, Matias Vecino, Nahitan Nandez, and Rodrigo Bentancur lead.  This foursome ranks among the best in the tournament.  Their energy and athleticism lend towards attack strategy.

Important Uruguay Names

Up front nobody gets after it like controversial Luis Saurez.  A pro with Barcelona he has 50 goals and 97 caps for Uruguay.  Also impressive is forward Edinson Cavani.  The Paris Saint Germain pro has 42 goals and 100 caps internationally.  And stalwart Diego Godin is a master at defensive coordination on the pitch.  Coach Oscar Tabarez is 70 years of age and may be near retirement.  Nobody is more responsible for getting Uruguay back on the map.

Matchup to Watch

This is a World Cup betting odds mismatch.  Uruguay is expensive.  But a near certain loss on Egypt is of no value.  Uruguay has far more material in this matchup.
